I received some sug\u00adges\u00adtions, includ\u00ading the only major Mozart opera I had nev\u00ader heard, but chance brought a solu\u00adtion. I\u2019ve writ\u00adten <span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><a style=\"color: #0000ff;\" href=\"http:\/\/www.philpaine.com\/?p=53\">else\u00adwhere<\/a><\/span> about my long-term love affair with the New Zealand-Aus\u00adtralian band Crowd\u00aded House. The only impor\u00adtant Crowd\u00aded House item miss\u00ading from my col\u00adlec\u00adtion was their farewell con\u00adcert in Syd\u00adney Opera House. Crowd\u00aded House\u00ad\u2019s stu\u00addio work was superb, but their live per\u00adfor\u00admances were even bet\u00adter. It was a band that loved to be with its audi\u00adence (who loved to be with them). The band had just bro\u00adken up (not ran\u00adcorous\u00adly). After this was announced, they played a farewell char\u00adi\u00adty con\u00adcert for Syd\u00adney Chil\u00addren\u2019s Hos\u00adpi\u00adtal, on Novem\u00adber 24 of 1996. It is said to be one of the biggest live per\u00adfor\u00admances in Aus\u00adtralian his\u00adto\u00adry, draw\u00ading a crowd of rough\u00adly 160,000. Neil Finn\u2019s broth\u00ader Tim, from their Split Enz days, made a guest appear\u00adance. The songs, cov\u00ader\u00ading every peri\u00adod from their career, were per\u00adformed in some\u00adtimes star\u00adtling\u00adly new ways. Neil Finn\u2019s famous ban\u00adter and inter\u00adac\u00adtion with the crowd was as sparkling as ever. New twists on \u201cSis\u00adter Mad\u00adly\u201d, \u201cBet\u00adter Be Home Soon\u201d, \u201cPri\u00advate Uni\u00adverse\u201d, \u201cSome\u00adthing So Strong\u201d, \u201cPineap\u00adple Head\u201d, did\u00adn\u2019t under\u00admine the orig\u00adi\u00adnals, but showed the inner strength of the songs. End\u00ading, of course, on \u201cDon\u2019t Dream It\u2019s Over\u201d, the con\u00adcert must have left the audi\u00adence exhaust\u00aded with plea\u00adsure.
