No mat\u00adter how lit\u00ader\u00adary and sophis\u00adti\u00adcated it is made to sound, it is basi\u00adcally just as sil\u00adly as teenagers in Okla\u00adhoma dress\u00ading up as goths and drink\u00ading cat blood, or any oth\u00ader infan\u00adtile behav\u00adiour based on \u201cblas\u00adphemy\u201d. I resent hav\u00ading gay sex\u00adu\u00adal\u00adity sta\u00adpled to this stuff \u2015 or any type of sex\u00adu\u00adal\u00adity, for that mat\u00adter. I real\u00adly couldn\u2019t find any inter\u00adest\u00ading ideas in this nov\u00adel, or any pas\u00adsages that gave me plea\u00adsure, or images that did not seem trite. The \u201cerot\u00adic\u201d com\u00adpo\u00adnent of the book was mere\u00adly depress\u00ading and pathet\u00adic. Per\u00adhaps the style has some par\u00adtic\u00adu\u00adlar qual\u00adity in Dutch that I have no access to, which accounts for its fame.<span id=\"more-107\"> <\/span>I have no idea why Van het Reve is though so high\u00adly of. The light\u00adhearted, tol\u00ader\u00adant and civ\u00adi\u00adlized atti\u00adtude that most Dutch peo\u00adple have towards sex is the polar oppo\u00adsite of all this kind of stuff. Maybe they just find it so strange that they assume it must be sig\u00adnif\u00adi\u00adcant.
