Like most Cana\u00addi\u00adans, I have a some\u00adwhat ambiva\u00adlent and jaun\u00addiced atti\u00adtude towards our south\u00adern cousins.&nbsp;Some\u00adtimes this can get car\u00adried away. When times are at their worst, we tend to respond with the frus\u00adtrat\u00aded anger of some\u00adone who has learned that his admired broth\u00ader has turned into a drug addict or been brain\u00adwashed by the Moonies. For the times I\u2019ve been intem\u00adper\u00adate in my crit\u00adi\u00adcisms, I duly apol\u00ado\u00adgize.&nbsp;But let me say this:&nbsp;I have always admired Amer\u00adi\u00adca, as most Cana\u00addi\u00adans have always admired it, for the obvi\u00adous rea\u00adsons. Those rea\u00adsons can be found in the quin\u00adtes\u00adsen\u00adtial\u00adly Amer\u00adi\u00adcan works of art, music, phi\u00adlos\u00ado\u00adphy and lit\u00ader\u00ada\u00adture that are as much a part of me as the red maple leaves blow\u00ading in the street out\u00adside my door are part of me. Tomor\u00adrow the Amer\u00adi\u00adcan peo\u00adple will decide whether their nation is over and done with or will con\u00adtin\u00adue and renew itself. If McCain is elect\u00aded, every\u00adone in the world will know that Amer\u00adi\u00adca is washed up, fin\u00adished. Nobody will ever take any Amer\u00adi\u00adcan seri\u00adous\u00adly again. But it appears that the tide is turn\u00ading.&nbsp;Amer\u00adi\u00adca seems to be re-dis\u00adcov\u00ader\u00ading itself.&nbsp;I have faith in the Amer\u00adi\u00adcan peo\u00adple.
