It is rea\u00adson\u00adably faith\u00adful to the sto\u00adry, and appar\u00adent\u00adly won Ellison\u2019s approval, except for the last line spo\u00adken in the film. Elli\u00adson felt it this line was mysogin\u00adist, a crit\u00adi\u00adcism that had been unjust\u00adly made against the sto\u00adry. The kind of bit\u00adter, cyn\u00adi\u00adcal humour that was com\u00admon\u00adplace at the time prob\u00ada\u00adbly does\u00adn\u2019t sit will with the audi\u00adences of today. The satir\u00adi\u00adcal dystopia of white-face-paint\u00aded oli\u00adgarchs rul\u00ading a Walt Dis\u00adney\u00adish Tope\u00adka, Kansas in an under\u00adground refuge will prob\u00ada\u00adbly just puz\u00adzle any\u00adone under thir\u00adty. But this kind of humour, updat\u00aded in imagery, might be on the verge of a come-back.&nbsp;The lead actor, Don John\u00adson, lat\u00ader went on to star in the tele\u00advi\u00adsion Mia\u00admi Vice.&nbsp;Jason Robards, a vet\u00ader\u00adan star from the 1950s, played the sin\u00adis\u00adter ruler of the under\u00adground Tope\u00adka.
