The book min\u00adi\u00admizes inter\u00adpre\u00adta\u00adtion and analy\u00adsis in favour of pro\u00advid\u00ading hun\u00addreds of texts with ref\u00ader\u00adences to elec\u00adtion, and let\u00adting them speak for them\u00adselves. The author chimes in when it is nec\u00ades\u00adsary to explain how a par\u00adtic\u00adu\u00adlar word or con\u00adcept might have a dif\u00adfer\u00adent mean\u00ading in a medieval con\u00adtext, or a reli\u00adgious con\u00adtext. Over\u00adall inter\u00adpre\u00adta\u00adtion, and that very cau\u00adtious, is saved for the end of the book. Two basic groups of doc\u00adu\u00adments are cov\u00adered: those relat\u00ading to elec\u00adtion with\u00adin the Cler\u00adgy, and those relat\u00ading to elec\u00adtion with\u00adin the monas\u00adtic sys\u00adtem. The monas\u00adtic doc\u00adu\u00adments are of greater inter\u00adest to a his\u00adto\u00adri\u00adan of democracy.<!--more--><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">It\u2019s impor\u00adtant for us to under\u00adstand that demo\u00adc\u00adra\u00adt\u00adic, or qua\u00adsi-demo\u00adc\u00adra\u00adt\u00adic pro\u00adce\u00addures appear in most cul\u00adtures, regions, and his\u00adtor\u00adi\u00adcal eras (This has been the thrust of col\u00adlab\u00ado\u00adra\u00adtive work between myself and Steve Muhlberg\u00ader over the last cou\u00adple of decades). The Church and the monas\u00adtic sys\u00adtem direct\u00adly impinged on the life-expe\u00adri\u00adence of many mil\u00adlions of peo\u00adple in Latin Chris\u00adten\u00addom, thus pro\u00advid\u00ading yet anoth\u00ader set\u00adting, along with vil\u00adlage life, town gov\u00ader\u00adnance, and guild mem\u00adber\u00adship, by which ordi\u00adnary peo\u00adple were exposed to the core con\u00adcepts of democ\u00adra\u00adcy.
