But the influ\u00adence also moved in the oth\u00ader direc\u00adtion. I have an old vinyl with high\u00adlights of two operettas by Paul Abra\u00adham, <em>Vik\u00adto\u00adria und ihr Husar<\/em> (1930) and <em>Die Blume von Hawaii <\/em>(1931), and they dis\u00adplay a strong influ\u00adence from Jazz and Broad\u00adway. They were very pop\u00adu\u00adlar in their day, but are now rather obscure. The sec\u00adond even has an Amer\u00adi\u00adcan set\u00adting (Hawaii) and fea\u00adtures songs sung in Ger\u00adman with a com\u00adi\u00adcal\u00adly intend\u00aded Amer\u00adi\u00adcan accent, and has Eng\u00adlish phras\u00ades scat\u00adtered about in the lyrics.&nbsp;Abra\u00adham, a Jew, fled Europe short\u00adly after these suc\u00adcess\u00ades, only to wind up in a New York men\u00adtal hos\u00adpi\u00adtal in 1946. He recov\u00adered, and lived until 1960.
