Jesse Cook, born in France of Cana\u00addian par\u00adents, and now oper\u00adat\u00ading out of Toron\u00adto, has been a superb prac\u00adtitioner of this style for a decade. The only one of his sev\u00aden albums I have is <em>Nomad<\/em> (2003), which fea\u00adtures won\u00adder\u00adful vocals by the Egypt\u00adian singer Maryem Tol\u00adlar on the song \u201cQaduk\u00adka-l-Mayyas\u201d, per\u00adhaps the best item. The album incor\u00adpo\u00adrates so many world influ\u00adences, with guest con\u00adtri\u00adbu\u00adtions from Hos\u00adsam Ramzy, Flo\u00adra Purim, the Afro Celts, and even the BoDeans (!), that the fla\u00admenco ele\u00adment is some\u00adtimes near\u00adly invis\u00adi\u00adble. Cook is such a fine gui\u00adtarist that he feels no need to be a con\u00adstant cen\u00adter of atten\u00adtion \u2013\u2014 in sev\u00aderal of the tracks he pro\u00advides only a mod\u00adest accom\u00adpa\u00adni\u00adment while oth\u00ader mem\u00adbers of the large ensem\u00adble take the spot\u00adlight.
