style=\"color: #000000;\">I\u2019ve nev\u00ader under\u00adstand why this won\u00adder\u00adful film had such a poor crit\u00adi\u00adcal recep\u00adtion.&nbsp;Crit\u00adics com\u00adplained that they could not fol\u00adlow the sto\u00adry.&nbsp;In fact, this medieval mys\u00adtery, a lov\u00ading trib\u00adute to Conan Doyle\u2019s Sher\u00adlock Holmes sto\u00adries, by Umber\u00adto Eco was very faith\u00adful\u00adly trans\u00adlat\u00aded to the screen.&nbsp;Every\u00adthing is per\u00adfect\u00adly clear if the view\u00ader actu\u00adal\u00adly pays atten\u00adtion (which I have not noticed film crit\u00adics being par\u00adtic\u00adu\u00adlar\u00adly good at).&nbsp;All the per\u00adfor\u00admances are good, but Sean Con\u00adnery, as the Frances\u00adcan detec\u00adtive William of Baskerville, is superb.&nbsp;You can tell when an actor under\u00adstands, not only the mean\u00ading and con\u00adtext of his lines, but their impli\u00adca\u00adtions as well.&nbsp;Yes, the film is slow\u00adly paced, and requires some effort from the view\u00ader to appre\u00adci\u00adate.&nbsp;But it has moments of great beau\u00adty, espe\u00adcial\u00adly when William\u2019s char\u00adac\u00adter is revealed in his inter\u00adac\u00adtions with his novice, Adsel of Melk (Chris\u00adt\u00adian Slater).&nbsp;I strong\u00adly rec\u00adom\u00admend this&nbsp;film.<\/span><br>\n<\/span><\/span><\/span><!--more--><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.philpaine.com\/?attachment_id=9725\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-9725\"><img loading=\"lazy\"
