\"18-08-16<\/a>There is more to this bleak sto\u00adry of a young man in a juve\u00adnile deten\u00adtion facil\u00adi\u00adty than just anoth\u00ader bit of \u201csocial real\u00adism\u201d or the usu\u00adal for\u00admu\u00adla of redemp\u00adtion-through-sport. There are lay\u00aders and lay\u00aders in Alan Sil\u00adli\u00adtoe\u2019s sto\u00adry, and Ralph Richard\u00adson\u2019s film gets many of them across. It\u2019s about being con\u00adtrolled, being used, being forced to play roles for oth\u00aders, and final\u00adly rebelling against it in a way that makes some sense. The actors clear\u00adly under\u00adstood these sub\u00adtleties, and avoid\u00aded clich\u00e9s in inter\u00adpret\u00ading the roles. Tom Court\u00adney became a star on the strength of this per\u00adfor\u00admance. Michael Red\u00adgrave, by then a ven\u00ader\u00ada\u00adble icon, worked every scene with him in del\u00adi\u00adcate bal\u00adance. This film still has a high rep\u00adu\u00adta\u00adtion in the British cin\u00ade\u00adma, and just\u00adly so.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n
