No top\u00adic is clos\u00ader to my heart, and, frankly, I wish that I had writ\u00adten this book.&nbsp;\u201c47\u201d is a plan\u00adta\u00adtion slave, who, in the 1830\u2019s, encoun\u00adters an alien being who is strand\u00aded on earth. He tells his tale from the view\u00adpoint of <em>now<\/em>, since he has become effec\u00adtively immor\u00adtal, and still retains the 14-year-old body. But the sci\u00adence fic\u00adtion ele\u00adment of the sto\u00adry is under\u00adplayed. Mosley con\u00adcen\u00adtrates on mak\u00ading the read\u00ader hear, taste, smell, and feel the real\u00adity of slav\u00adery.
