It\u2019s the sort of thing that works fine in a book, but makes a ter\u00adri\u00adble movie. You can sort of guess what is going on at the end, but doubt\u00adless most of the audi\u00adence left the the\u00adatres scratch\u00ading their heads. A pity, because John\u00adny Dep\u00adp\u2019s per\u00adfor\u00admance is, as usu\u00adal, extreme\u00adly pro\u00adfes\u00adsion\u00adal.&nbsp;He wrings as much out of the emo\u00adtion\u00adal\u00adly ambigu\u00adous char\u00adac\u00adter as he can. Most of us who love books would have been charmed to see an enter\u00adtain\u00ading film in which rare book col\u00adlec\u00adtors and deal\u00aders are giv\u00aden a fic\u00adtion\u00adal life involv\u00ading mur\u00adder, intrigue, and hot sex, how\u00adev\u00ader inac\u00adcu\u00adrate\u00adly the tech\u00adni\u00adcal details of book col\u00adlect\u00ading are pre\u00adsent\u00aded. But this film does\u00adn\u2019t enter\u00adtain.
