Wax is the stage name for a tal\u00adented female vocal\u00adist with a very expres\u00adsive, and some\u00adtimes beau\u00adti\u00adful voice. Her arrange\u00adments range from cheesy syn\u00adthe\u00adsizer pop to fair\u00adly raunchy rhythm and blues. In some cas\u00ades, gen\u00adres are bizarrely mixed, such as when a cho\u00adrus of grunt\u00ading male met\u00adal voic\u00ades inex\u00adplic\u00ada\u00adbly fill in the spaces between vers\u00ades of a Brit\u00adney Spears-ish love song. This may all sound pret\u00adty trashy to a North Amer\u00adi\u00adcan lis\u00adtener, but there\u2019s no law against musi\u00adcal syn\u00adchretism, and in any case, East Asian pop plays by its own rules. I\u2019m told that a lot of her suc\u00adcess comes from the per\u00adspi\u00adcac\u00adity of her song\u00adwrit\u00aders, Choi Joon Young and Kim Gee Hoonong. It can\u2019t all be in the lyrics: Wax\u2019s pop\u00adu\u00adlar\u00adity extends far beyond the K\u2011pop scene, to the much broad\u00ader East Asian pop scene cov\u00ader\u00ading Chi\u00adna, <span class=\"caps\">HK<\/span>, Tai\u00adwan, Viet\u00adnam, Sin\u00adga\u00adpore and Japan.
