I was deeply impressed by the courage and skill that went into this new nov\u00adel for teenagers. First of all, it under\u00adtakes the tech\u00adni\u00adcally dif\u00adfi\u00adcult task of writ\u00ading a nov\u00adel in the style of a blog, with cur\u00adrent teenage blog-lan\u00adguage used con\u00advinc\u00adingly. Sec\u00adond, it gets in the head of two teenagers, one straight and one gay, who have main\u00adtained a friend\u00adship from child\u00adhood, and are con\u00adfronting their first sex\u00adual choic\u00ades. Sloan, who is a film direc\u00adtor, suc\u00adceeds admirably in both these tasks. I have been told by too many peo\u00adple that the cur\u00adrent atmos\u00adphere in pub\u00adlish\u00ading pre\u00adcludes an intel\u00adli\u00adgent treat\u00adment of teenage sex\u00adu\u00adal\u00adity. This book proves that those peo\u00adple are wrong. Yes, it\u2019s true that the march\u00ading morons have com\u00adman\u00addeered and cor\u00adrupted much of the media in North Amer\u00adica. Yes, it\u2019s true that an aging pop\u00adu\u00adla\u00adtion in the Unit\u00aded States and Cana\u00adda has been get\u00adting steadi\u00adly stu\u00adpider and more con\u00adser\u00adv\u00ada\u00adtive. But it is essen\u00adtial that writ\u00aders resist these trends, and stand up for true moral val\u00adues against the igno\u00adrance and immoral\u00adity of Con\u00adser\u00advatism, espe\u00adcially when it comes to writ\u00ading for the young. Sloan does so, and earns my respect for it.<\/span><\/p>\n
