A read\u00ader trea\u00adsures an old copy of <em>Cinnabar<\/em>, with its moody, ele\u00adgantly writ\u00adten sto\u00adries, with much more affec\u00adtion than they can usu\u00adally sum\u00admon for any\u00adthing by the big shots of the field. <span id=\"more-558\"><\/span>In the same way, a music fan will trea\u00adsure vinyls of Tom Wait\u2019s <em>Rain Dogs<\/em>, George Thoro\u00adgood <span class=\"amp\">&amp;<\/span> the Destroy\u00aders, or John Hyatt\u2019s <em>Rid\u00ading With the King<\/em>. Ed Bryant may have been some\u00adwhat influ\u00adenced by Har\u00adlan Elli\u00adson, of whom he was some\u00adthing of a pro\u00adteg\u00e9, and with whom he some\u00adtimes col\u00adlab\u00ado\u00adrated, but I think his real styl\u00adis\u00adtic affin\u00adity is with Cord\u00adwainer Smith. Raised on a Wyoming cat\u00adtle ranch, he does not share Ellison\u2019s urban aes\u00adthetic, and his prose is not \u201ccon\u00adtem\u00adpo\u00adrary\u201d and slangy in the way Ellison\u2019s always was. Any\u00adway, if you can dig up a copy of <em>Cinnabar<\/em> (pub\u00adlished in 1975), not nec\u00ades\u00adsar\u00adi\u00adly an easy task, you will be reward\u00aded with a series of inter\u00adcon\u00adnected sto\u00adries, none of which seems to have an obvi\u00adous point, but which togeth\u00ader cre\u00adate an atmos\u00adphere which will cling in your mem\u00adory for decades.<\/span><!--more--><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 10pt; font-family: 'Arial', 'sans-serif'; color: #000000;\">con\u00adtents:<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 10pt; font-family: 'Arial', 'sans-serif'; color: #000000;\">14959.
