He has rep\u00adre\u00adsent\u00aded every\u00adthing I\u2019ve con\u00adsid\u00adered vile, dis\u00adgust\u00ading and immoral in Cana\u00addi\u00adan pol\u00adi\u00adtics. Divid\u00aded oppo\u00adsi\u00adtion, abysmal\u00adly low vot\u00ader turnout and gen\u00ader\u00adal apa\u00adthy kept him in pow\u00ader for what seemed an eter\u00adni\u00adty, but the Cana\u00addi\u00adan peo\u00adple have final\u00adly wok\u00aden up. As a suc\u00adces\u00adsion of cor\u00adrup\u00adtion scan\u00addals weak\u00adened his posi\u00adtion, Harp\u00ader hired an Amer\u00adi\u00adcan cam\u00adpaign advi\u00adsor \u2014 a hack strate\u00adgist from the U.S. Repub\u00adli\u00adcan Par\u00adty \u2014 who advised him to run a cam\u00adpaign designed to exploit big\u00adotry, super\u00adsti\u00adtion and igno\u00adrance in the man\u00adner of the Tea Par\u00adty ass\u00adholes in the U.S.. Cana\u00addi\u00adans, to their cred\u00adit, were large\u00adly dis\u00adgust\u00aded by this kind of cyn\u00adi\u00adcal creepi\u00adness. Vot\u00ader turnout exceed\u00aded any\u00adthing expect\u00aded. There is lit\u00adtle doubt that this was large\u00adly an anti-Harp\u00ader wave, not inspired by any high hopes for any oppo\u00adsi\u00adtion par\u00adty. \u201cStrate\u00adgic vot\u00ading\u201d, where vot\u00aders care\u00adful\u00adly vot\u00aded for who\u00adev\u00ader had the best chance of turn\u00ading out the Con\u00adser\u00adv\u00ada\u00adtives, seemed to catch on, and young peo\u00adple seem to have flocked to the polls, too. I\u2019m no par\u00adtic\u00adu\u00adlar fan of Lib\u00ader\u00adal leader Justin Trudeau, but he seemed to find his feet dur\u00ading the extend\u00aded cam\u00adpaign, and his par\u00adty will form a major\u00adi\u00adty gov\u00adern\u00adment, with a plu\u00adral\u00adi\u00adty in the pop\u00adu\u00adlar vote on top of its vic\u00adto\u00adry in seats. The Lib\u00ader\u00adals have many pol\u00adi\u00adcy posi\u00adtions that I strong\u00adly oppose (such as sup\u00adport for the TPP<\/span> and a par\u00adtial accep\u00adtance of the hideous Bill C\u201151). We\u2019ll see how this turns out, but at least we\u2019re rid of Harper.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
