It does\u00adn\u2019t have much to do with the orig\u00adi\u00adnal Anglo-Sax\u00adon epic, but mythol\u00ado\u00adgy is, by its very nature, open to any muta\u00adtion the re-teller cares to make. Who the hell knows what trans\u00adfor\u00adma\u00adtions the sto\u00adry expe\u00adri\u00adenced before our \u201clit\u00ader\u00adary\u201d ver\u00adsion appeared?&nbsp;No one object\u00aded when Allan Gard\u00adner turned the sto\u00adry on its head in his nov\u00adel \u201cGren\u00addel\u201d.
