It already has the sense of play\u00adful inven\u00adtion, of twisty-turny, peek\u00ada\u00adboo sur\u00adprise that Mozart pre\u00adserved in even his most seri\u00adous works until the end of his life. It was com\u00adposed on a vis\u00adit to Lon\u00addon, and it shows the dis\u00adtinct influ\u00adence of Johann Chris\u00adt\u00adian Bach, who was also in Lon\u00addon at the time. Influ\u00adence, not mere copy\u00ading, all the more remark\u00adable because it was only his six\u00adteenth work. It is not, as some assumed, the work of Mozart\u2019s con\u00adtrol\u00adling and ambi\u00adtious father, Leopold, passed off as the boy\u2019s.
