Over the last decade, Young\u00adbird, a pow\u00ader\u00adhouse Pawnee band from Okla\u00adhoma, has loomed large in the pow-wow cir\u00adcuit in both the Unit\u00aded States and Cana\u00adda, with its South\u00adern Style songs. But even more ven\u00ader\u00ada\u00adble are Canada\u2019s North\u00adern Cree Singers, from Sad\u00addle Lake, Alber\u00adta. They\u2019ve been per\u00adform\u00ading since 1980, and have 23 albums under their belts. North\u00adern Cree are known for the sheer pow\u00ader of their singing, as well as well-craft\u00aded song\u00adwrit\u00ading. They\u2019ve long been the favourite among com\u00adpet\u00adi\u00adtive dancers, since they par\u00adtic\u00adu\u00adlar\u00adly excel at \u201csec\u00adond songs\u201d, the ones with vari\u00adable rhythm and sud\u00adden, short stops, which show off a dancer\u2019s moves. Well ground\u00aded in the North\u00adern Style, they skill\u00adful\u00adly play off the South\u00adern Style Young\u00adbirds in this dyna\u00admite album record\u00aded live at the annu\u00adal Ermine Skin Band Pow-Wow, Hobbe\u00adma, Alber\u00adta.
