In the jar\u00adgon of sci\u00adence fic\u00adtion fan\u00addom, Rich Coad is pub\u00adlish\u00ading a \u201cser\u00adcon fanzine\u201d \u2014 an ama\u00adteur pub\u00adli\u00adca\u00adtion that empha\u00adsizes seri\u00adous dis\u00adcus\u00adsion of sci\u00adence fic\u00adtion lit\u00ader\u00ada\u00adture and issues, rather than social chat\u00adter, auto\u00adbi\u00ado\u00adgraph\u00adi\u00adcal writ\u00adings, or in-group humour. Long before the exis\u00adtence of blog\u00adging or the web, fanzines were the vehi\u00adcle that car\u00adried much of the same func\u00adtions and sen\u00adsi\u00adbil\u00adity. A few sci\u00adence fic\u00adtion fanzines of the old-fash\u00adioned print-on-paper vari\u00adety still sur\u00advive, but few\u00ader still are \u201cser\u00adcon\u201d. There\u2019s a spe\u00adcial plea\u00adsure in hold\u00ading the stuff in your hands, and my hat goes off to Rich for fac\u00ading the daunt\u00ading bar\u00adri\u00aders of high postal rates and com\u00adput\u00ader-gen\u00ader\u00ada\u00adtion apathy.<\/span><\/p>\n
